The issue:
The world cup in Qatar is by far the most precarious situation in football today. A world cup in where more than 6500 people lost their lives during the construction of the stadiums and surrounding accommodations. Stadiums in where we are supposed to celebrate unity through football are now haunted by the deaths of thousands of migrant workers.
During the construction these people were kept in camps where human rights fell short, often too many workers were packed in small rooms in which they had to eat and sleep. Other factors linked to the abuse of migrant workers and which are not directly addressed by recent legal changes are: workers debt caused by illegal and unethical recruitment practices, the late and non-payment of wages, barriers to obtaining justice when rights are violated, the prohibition of trade unions, the failure to enforce labor laws and penalize employers who abuse their workers.
Insight: Football fans are disconnected from the workers. This is because all parties involved have tried to cover up their crimes in Qatar. They know once the fans stand up they have a big problem.
Concept: Connect fans to the fallen migrant workers.
Solution: Create football fan clothing that support migrant workers.
I have created dutch football fan clothing that connects the fans with migrant workers. This way we show them we know about their sacrifices and we let the FIFA know they failed covering up their crimes.
